As a born and raised Angeleno, Este Haim has never strayed too far from home. While growing up in San Fernando Valley, she and her sisters, Danielle and Alana (who comprise the award-winning band HAIM), lived in a cozy California ranch-style house full of heirlooms and trinkets. “I’ve been obsessed with fashion since I was probably in elementary school, but when it comes to home decor, it was never really something that my mom and dad were into,” she says from a hotel room in London. “I’m not the best when it comes to that stuff, even though my grandma was an interior designer. I wish I had inherited it, but I did not. Danielle definitely inherited it, she has a really, really keen eye. My eye is not as keen as hers, so I knew once I bought my house that I was going to need some help.”

When the band isn’t headlining tours across the globe (a forthcoming album is on the way as evidenced by the release of their new single “Relationships”), Este maintains her peace of mind from the comfort of Silver Lake, where she finally bought a house around two years ago. “When I come home from tour, it is the nicest feeling to have a really comfy and cozy place for me to relax in,” she explains. “As a touring musician, when you open the door to your house, you just want to feel like every fiber of your being is relaxed and you can let go of everything you’ve been carrying from tour.”

“I’ve been following [Lulu and Georgia] for almost 10 years now, so I’ve always just been a fan from the sidelines,” Este Haim says. “They eventually reached out to me and I was fully fangirling, I was like, ‘I love you guys. I love everything you do. I love all your collaborations.’ One thing led to another and I was like, ‘Oh, wait, pop quiz, guess what? I just bought a house, I need your help.’”

After getting settled in with her fiancé, Este had her sights set on Lulu and Georgia to furnish their humble abode—she had already been following the brand for about a decade after repeat encounters in the homes of friends. “When I first moved in, I was also traveling and touring so I had basically a mattress, an IKEA lamp, and a hot plate,” Este recalls. “I had a stretch of time when we were hunkering down to make the record and I could sit with the lovely gals at Lulu and Georgia... We mapped everything out over the course of a couple weeks.”

Not only is the musician officially a first-time homeowner, but this house also marks the first place Este has ever lived with a long-term partner. (Thankfully, he has a good eye for design, so she can leave most of the sartorial choices to him.) “I’m mostly particular about my plants, I try to be as good of a plant mom as I possibly can,” she admits. “The fun part for me now is bringing as much foliage into the house as possible and still being able to collect things along the way. Being in London, I’m going to try and do a little bit of home decor shopping, but he’s pretty particular and I’m still learning how to live with a boy. It’s an interesting process, who knew? I love my independence, so we are in a trial and error situation as we progress in me being affianced, figuring it out, but we’re great.”

Architectural Digest: What city do you live in?

Este Haim: Los Angeles. I’ve been in [this] house now for almost two years. I’m a first-time homeowner, I saved up for almost 10 years to buy my house.

How would you describe the style or aesthetic of your home?

I’m definitely not fussy. I don’t really gravitate toward things that feel too done. I like things that feel a little lived in, that look and feel like they’ve had a life or a story already. I love how Lulu and Georgia’s stuff just feels like there’s some nostalgia there. There’s also really classic pieces with an updated twist always, which I love. I like a nice mix of textures and fabrics and colors.

“I love my dining room table, Sarah Sherman Samuel is a genius,” Este gushes. “When that collaboration became available, it was right around the time that I started talking to Lulu and Georgia, and I was like, ‘Oh my God, if I can snag any of that for my house, let’s go.’”

What’s one kitchen item that you use every single day?

Definitely my teapot. I’m trying not to drink coffee, and I think I’m succeeding. I had a bit of an addiction and it was, not to get too medical or anything, but it was raising my cortisol. And because it raised my cortisol, it was also raising my blood sugar, because I’m a type 1 diabetic. So I’m trying to stay away from coffee. I’ve been doing caffeine-free tea, but if I do want a little bit of caffeine I get these little cans of green tea from the corner store around the corner from my house. But yeah, I’m a tea girl now…. Never thought it would happen! I’m trying to put myself first in 2025 and really look out for Este’s well-being, and I think Este needs to cut caffeine. I’m loving it so far.

What’s your favorite gadget or appliance?

Does my bass guitar count? I have a tiny studio set up at my house, but I’m too in my head most of the time to ever meditate. The closest I get to meditating is practicing bass. After a long day, even in the studio, if I can just sit and play by myself, it’s such a release for me. It’s my ’73 Fender Blondie, I love her. I love being able to come home and just play.

Do you have any items in your home with extra sentimental value that you brought back from a trip?

I’m lucky that I’m a touring musician and that I get to go to places that I’ve only dreamed of. If I’m lucky, I get to go to flea markets and pawn shops if I have time and pick up trinkets. I love going to a thrift store whenever I can. One of the first trips I ever took with my fiancé was to Austin, and we picked up a bunch of really, really beautiful wall tapestries and a bunch of little trinket jars from a flea market which was really fun. It’s sentimental because it just reminds me of falling in love with my fiancé at the very beginning of our relationship. That’s also where my career started, so Austin really has such a special place in my heart. If it wasn’t for SXSW I don’t think I would be sitting here. I owe so much of my career to the city in general. It was such an amazing trip, and I’m just glad that I did pick up things that I can look at or touch and just have those memories from a tactile place.

Which room in your house is your favorite and why?

My bedroom. I could literally stay in that bed for the remainder of my life and be happy. I love my bed. I love my two comforters and heating pad. My side table is riddled with teacups. When it’s not a photo shoot, it is covered completely with teacups and tissues from me blowing my nose. Let’s be honest here, I have a really, really stuffy nose all the time. My happy place, truly, if I’m not playing music, is being in my bed with snacks and watching Severance, White Lotus, and any one of the Real Housewives.

The color of my room is a pinky creamy color, it’s really calming. When I was in high school, I had a bedroom that was bright red, and now I know why I was such a stressed kid—stress is basically the theme of this interview, I was so high-strung and stressed. Lulu and Georgia told me that the color of your room is probably stressing you out. They were like, “Let’s give you a calming room color,” and it really is. I sleep great now.

Given that you spend so much time on the road, do you follow a bedtime ritual?

Two melatonin gummies and a Sleepy Time tea and I’m out. That’s my ritual. Me in bed with snacks. The easiest way for me to fall asleep is with the TV on, I need some background noise in order to fall asleep. But I do love my melatonin gummies.

The coziest corner.
